Olive Harvest

The tree to be harvested
Catching the falling olives
On a recent Sunday morning the kids and I were picked up by Kadir and Nese to help harvest two olive trees at the students' apartment complex (owned by Georgetown Univ).  After a wonderful picnic breakfast of eggs, olives, cheeses, olives, breads and insanely delicious, homemade spinach cheese gozleme beneath the targeted trees, we started in on our work.
Brunch is served!

The tedious tasks of collecting the olives shaken from the trees, picking out the leaves, sticks and bugs, and separating the green from the purple fruit, were right up the kids' alley.  I do believe they could have stayed there all afternoon.   Much complaining was heard when we had to depart for Ruby's nap.  I haven't seen the finished product yet, but with Kadir's guidance the
group finishd preparing the small harvest for brining.  Really great experience! - Kelly

So proud to help
