The library |
It's the rainy season here which means - gasp - some non-beach days. Last week it actually rained for four days straight. No beach, no playgrounds, limited toys and a very, very small apartment made for some stir crazy kids and, as a result, an equally stir crazy momma. By the third morning the kids had resorted to some sort of game that involved head butting each other in the torso. Looking to avoid a second trip to the local hospital, I drug out the rain jackets and we hailed a cab, requesting that the driver take us to the nearest public library. Some translation problems ensued but eventually, 25 lira later, we made it to the Emine Hacicura Kutuphanese. It ended up being quite close to us and just one block off the beach which means easily accessible by bus for future visits.

One of the books we picked out

Despite the fact that they had exactly 5 books in English, the kids had fun and we hung out there for an hour or so. We even checked out two books. Although I had warned the kids that we most likely would not be able to get a library card, it turned out that all they needed was my name.

Relishing time out of the apartment

No proof of identification, no address, no phone number, no nothing. My name was written on a post it note with a listing of the books I borrowed and that was it. Easy peasy. I see more visits in future. - Kelly
